Annex XII Stakeholder Meeting

The Stakeholder Meeting of the regional project titled “Domestication of Endangered, Endemic and Threatened Plant Species in Disturbed Terrestrial Ecosystem in Malaysia and Thailand” (AFoCo/010/2016) was held on 26th August 2016 at M1 Meeting Hall, Mae Moh Lignite Mine, Lampang, Thailand. The main objectives of this Meeting were to publicize the project to local people and to listen to their view of future forest that they desire.

The Meeting was attended by 107 stakeholders from various occupations such as local people around Mae Moh mine, Mae Moh mine officers, village headman, community forest network, forestry officers, and forest fire control officers.

Prior to the meeting, an opening session was organized at the Project sign board at Mae Moh mine, Lampang, Thailand, Mr. Bunpoht Teeravas the Deputy Manager of Mae Moh lignite mine, in his welcoming remarks, warmly welcomed all delegates to the Meeting. He expressed appreciation to the Royal Forest Department (RFD) for choosing Mae Moh Mine as the study site and invite him to be the Project Steering Committee member and looked forward to the successful implementation of the project. Ms. Chumnun Piananurak, Senior Forest Research Officer, Royal Forest Department (RFD), in her remark, report to the Chairman of the meeting objectives and invited the Chair to officially open the meeting and open the sign board as well. Mr. Pralong Dumrongthai, Deputy Director General of the Royal Forest Department (RFD) and the director of the project, in his remark, expressed his appreciation to the organizing committee and all participants for making the meeting happen. He wished the meeting and the project implementation a fruitful success and declared the meeting and the sign board officially opened.

During the meeting the participants had an opportunity to listen to presentations of the Royal Forest Department project “Wanapracharat” by Mr. Apirak Daharanonda and “reclamation of the mine area” by Mr. Chalong Sonnim from the EGAT. The meeting was inspired on planting trees in such degraded land by watching the video clip on “Korea`s Way of Forest Management and Reforestation”. The meeting was then presented the Project background, objectives, and progress implementation by Ms. Chumnun Piananurak, the project manager. The meeting presented their view on the future forest they wanted by drawing pictures and group presentation and playing games.

Without knowing that green card represents the planter, pink represents logging order, yellow is the ignorance, who place more cards does not mean the winner. If your group or village have a lot of logging order you may lose.
